“Blue Cave” – Island Biševo

The “Blue Cave” is a natural spectacle located on the north-eastern side of the island of Biševo. The entrance to the cave faces southwards.

For the light show to be at its best, the sun must be at the right angle, which is usually between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Please note that there are no tours in to the cave when the waves are too high!

On the island of Biševo, the small harbour of Mezoporat is the starting point for visiting the cave. Whether you are travelling from Split, Hvar, Dubrovnik, Vis or Komiža: all boats dock at Mezoporat and passengers disembark. From Komiža the trip to Mezoporat takes about 15-20 minutes.
Here on Mezoporat you buy the tickets for the cave. A local provider (Nautički Centar Koimiža) takes over the tour of the cave. Passengers transfer to much smaller boats in the order of their ticket numbers. These boats then take them to the cave with a guide. After the tour, visitors are brought back to the starting point at Mezoporat.

There are various agencies in Vis and Komiža offering a wide range of options for visiting the Blue Cave. These include speedboats that travel directly from Komiža to Mezoporat and back. There are also tours that visit various bays and beaches on the island of Vis, or tours that also visit bays on Biševo. There is a large sandy beach (with fine sand) in the bay of ‘Porat’ on Biševo.

The ticket to visit the cave is usually paid for separately. As of 2025, the price is 24 euros per person in high season. Some of the agencies offer the option to buy the ticket for the cave in advance. So you don’t have to buy it in “Mezoporat”! Please check this directly with the agency.

You can follow ticket sales online at www.modraspilja.hr. Tickets are sold in numbered order, and admission is regulated according to this order. On the same website, you can also see ‘live’ whether there are currently any weather-related disruptions and ticket sales have been suspended as a result.

If you are planning a “romantic visit” to the cave, you should definitely avoid the peak season. Around 1,500 tickets are sold here every day. The visit in the cave lasts approximately 5 minutes.
